Contrary to what the title suggests, this song is actually about NOT being afraid of the dark. It's what I would consider to be a universal feeling - that we all have our own darkness to face, and in all honesty that tends to come out more during the day when we're out there living our lives. This song makes no apologies for this fact: I am going to be who I am around you, and I'm warning you that I do have things that I usually keep hidden, but you make me feel comfortable enough that I don't need to hide. Aimee Iris has an infectious enthusiasm about her; the song is bouncy and bubbly, despite the depth of the subject matter - she keeps it light-hearted in the arrangement and production so it feels like a catchy pop tune. I had the privilege of seeing Aimee play this live in a recent showcase and I love the way that her live, smiley nature has been captured so well on the the recording. Well worth a listen - and if you like it, you'll enjoy the rest of her catalogue too as it's all big-chorus-catchy-hook-pop that stays in your head ready to sing along on the next listen!
