Frank Honnor - On the Side of Angels

I have to admit, I set this track playing (always on repeat for a review - I like to listen a few times before writing anything) and I got distracted with something else for a while, so I think I've listened through about eight or nine times in one sitting here. The honest truth is that I haven't got bored of it yet and actually just smiled as it came back round to the start of the track again. Alongside Norman Murchie (lyrics) and Rob Quickenden (production), Honnor has created something quite brilliant here. Anyone who reads my reviews regularly will know how much I love decent production and this one lives up to my expectations (and perhaps even a bit more). I can hear drums and bass that are securely locked in together, lead guitar and rhythm guitar (with a wah wah) punching in and out at appropriate moments, various synths, lead vocal, backing vocals and lots of additional layers that float in and out of the arrangement. It's almost a little bit 80s with the synth sounds; the vocals remind me a touch of INXS and there's also a contemporary vibe with the breathy female backing vocals. Just go and listen to it, is all I can say. Well worth 3 minutes and 10 seconds of your time.
